Grab This HDRI Pack for Blender for Free

Goodness at 8K+.

Photographer and artist Simon Lachapelle shared a free HDRI pack for Blender, full of beautiful shots at 8K, 16K, and 32K.

What started as a personal exploration to understand color management and improve his tools turned into a great help for other artists.

Simon Lachapelle

"I created this HDRI pack to provide a set of fully calibrated lighting environments across various urban and landscape locations around the world. Perfect for lookdev and lighting setups, these HDRIs offer reliable, accurate colors and exposure for realistic rendering. As a professional photographer and CG supervisor in the VFX industry, I aimed to create a pack with high-resolution images that can be used in both small projects and large-scale productions, with the assurance that these HDRIs are perfectly calibrated."

Here's what you'll get:

  • True linear 32-bit unclipped HDRIs in .EXR format.
  • Three sizes available for download: 8K, 16K, and 32K.
  • White balance and exposure were manually calibrated using a Macbeth Color Chart, ensuring accurate results and consistency across the HDRIs.
  • Captured with one of the best camera sensor and lens combinations available.
  • The sun was captured using a 15-stop ND filter to preserve the full dynamic range of the scene, and the images were manually merged to achieve perfect exposure.
  • Previews are rendered in Octane Render with AgX color management.

If you are wondering how this treasure trove is free, the answer is simple: Lachapelle wants to give, not swim in gold.

"I work in the VFX industry and also do some freelance photography and arch-viz/products rendering. My goal with HDRIs isn’t to make a ton of money, any earnings I will make will go toward travel and better gear to shoot more HDRIs. I’d love to invest in a medium format camera soon and push the quality even further!" he said.

Naturally, the free version of the pack is limited compared to the paid options. You'll only get 8K HDRIs for non-commercial use. Other than that, it's a fantastic collection for artists of any level.
